Save The Gulf Silly Bandz: Helping The Gulf Coast
Looks like Silly Bandz is going to release, Save The Gulf Silly Bandz (Save The Gulf Bandz). The Ohio company had lists of kids, locals, and companies back in May from the Gulf Coast community suggest silly bandz that raise money for the wildlife and families being affected by this tragic oil spill. I gotta say, this whole campaign looks pretty thorough and with Silly Bandz donating a solid percentage from each pack to help the animals and communities, it might be a re spark in the toy’s popularity for a little while.
BCP supports both the National Wildlife Federation and the Greater New Orleans Foundation. We received an announcement kit late last night, including what looks like a poster, their normal announcement sheet with the pack and shapes, and a Gulf Bandz press release about the fund raising campaign.
The 24-pack Gulf Silly Bandz includes:
- Crawfish
- Seagull
- Dolphin
- Sea Turtle
- Coral Reef
- Pelican
Silly Bandz has a web site underway that’s actually live right now but still under production (rumored to be finally done by this weekend or Monday) that will act as an
information hub about the mission, an active live ticker showing how much money has been raised (by the hour), major retailers on board, and letters from kids about their thoughts on the oil spill. I also heard a rumor that the pack is going to do something no other pack has EVER done, so we’ll see what it is when I finally can get that info for you. You can buy this pack at sillybandz.com and very soon as savethegulfbandz.com. Aside from another company trying to pull this off, it seems that Silly Bandz at least put some thought into the project and are working with the locals on this one. Their organizations are not being contracted by BP by like others are, so the money is going directly to help the people and wildlife (charities get tricky sometimes). I’ve always favored Silly Bandz just because I’m a consumer name brand buff; but at the same time, I’ve been keeping up a lot with the aftermath of the oil spill that the media seems not to cover. These Save The Gulf Silly Bandz look like a good start to get some of America involved. More than 79% of the oil is still in the environment, countered by a senior NOAA scientist in retrospect of the chart they released weeks prior only saying that 26% is still left over. It seems we have a lot of work to do. Are you ready to help?
