This Trumpeter Swan is the largest of the North American waterfowl. It has a soot-white covered body which showcases its pinkish gray legs. The neck is strong and straight with a large, black bill and face. The wingspan is very large and majestic.

Their diet consists of small fish and insects. While swimming these birds sometimes up-ending or diving for submerged food. Trumpeter Swans breed in shallow ponds and wide, stretched rivers in the Northwestern and Central portion of the United States. The species were on the verge of extinction close to the 20th century, but is common today. The swan will moult during the summer and temporarily lose their flight feathers.

Female Trumpeter Swans tend to lay their eggs on in a mound of plants, beaver or muskat lodges, or a floating platform on the water. The same exact spot may be used for several years by the bird as a fraternal marking ground of its young.
